Matt BirdMatt Bird


Matt joined the firm in 2006, having previously spent six years at a Big 4 firm where he qualified as a Chartered Tax Advisor and passed the Financial Planning certificate exams. Before joining Sayers Butterworth LLP, he worked for a large regional practice in South East England.


Matt has a number of years experience in providing income, capital gains and inheritance tax advice to UK individuals and trustees. He is also spending an increasing amount of time advising clients on offshore tax planning and its pitfalls. As a result, Matt has a number of offshore trusts and companies, non-resident landlords and UK resident but non-domiciled taxpayers amongst his clients.


Married with two young children, Matt's other interests include cooking, travelling and music.

Budget 2012

Our in-house guide and commentary on the Budget is now available for downloading here.

VAT Online Filing

This became compulsory from 1 April 2012 and payment of VAT must now be made by electronic means. Cheques will no longer be accepted.

Compulsory Pensions

In 2012 automatic enrolment into a pension scheme is due to come into force. On average, it will cost small businesses an extra £2,550 per year.

Deadline Diary

The next date for the diary is 19 May when employers have to submit forms P35 and P14 to HMRC. We provide a full payroll service here at Sayers Butterworth so do let us know if you need any help with this or any PAYE issue.
